Strategic Integrative Approach of Urban Slum Community Development: A Case of Dushtha Shasthya Kendra in Bangladesh

Abstract
Slum communities are widespread in Dhaka city of Bangladesh Rapid urbanization is an underlying cause of forming slum communities in the city Slum people in these communities confront various interrelated and multifaceted social economic and environmental problems These problems impede them from maintaining a decent standard of living In response several urban development projects primary and secondary health care projects micro-credit projects water and sanitation hygiene project and human capital development cells are inaugurated by a well-known non-profit social organization Dushtha Shasthya Kendra DSK to get out of destitute slum people from a vicious cycle of poverty DSK undertakes a strategic integrative approach for the sustainable management of these projects This unique approach strategically interconnects these projects to deliver unified development services to impoverish slum communities by developing community-based organizations CBO DSK emphasizes creating maintaining and managing self-sustained CBOs for operational sustainability and empowering slum communities to boost their self-efficacy by giving them leadership to access and manage local development resources
